First runner-up in the just concluded All Progressive Congress (APC) governorship primary election in Kogi State, Yahaya Bello may have perfected plans to defect to the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in order to contest the November governorship election in Kogi State.
Bello in a short message to his supporters pledged to be on the ballot in the election saying his determination to give leadership to the State can no longer be delayed.
He stated: "I, Alh Yahaya Bello shall be on the ballot in the forthcoming Governorship election of Kogi State, Insha Allah. The coast is clear and the time is NOW! Details soon. Many thanks to all."
The aspirant who hails from Kogi Central came second to former governor, Prince Abubakar Audu who won the primary election to fly the APC's flag in the election.
Recall that also incumbent governor, Idris Wada also won the primary election of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) to contest. Both Audu and Wada are of the Igala ethnic group of Kogi East.
Bello may have considered this option in order to give life to the agitation of his Ebira ethnic group for a power shift from the Igalas who have dominated the Kogi State political scene since the creation of the State.
A close ally of the aspirant who gave the indication that he may to run on the platform of the SDP also said some key leaders of both the PDP and APC are working together on the project to make power rotation a reality.
