It is no news to footballers all around that Chelsea are on the verge of winning the premier league or that Juventus is set to clinch their fourth consecutive Serie A title. The world of sports also knows that these are not the only major titles on the line, this weekend in the sporting world.
On Saturday, two of boxing’s big names, Floyd ‘money’ Mayweather and Manny ‘pacman’ Pacquiao will go toe-to-toe at the MGM Arena in Las Vegas. This bout is the richest bout ever in history.
The WBC, WBO and WBA welterweight titles are on the line.
The eagerly awaited fight has transcended every sphere of the sporting world and some of football’s big name has something to say.Money is a favourite with the bookmakers, with Pacman the underdog. This comes as no surprise, as Mayweather is unbeaten in all his professional fights.
Chris Smalling, Manchester United defender feels the Filipino will put up a fight, but Money will win.
“I have to go for Mayweather,” the centre-half told Fifa. “I think it could go the distance and be won on points. It will be a lot closer than people think, but Mayweather will be too sharp and too quick.”
Manchester City ace Pablo Zabaleta also thinks Mayweather will win this, but didn’t hide the fact that he would love to see Money humbled.
“I want Pacquiao to win because he’s humble but I think Mayweather will win,” the defender told his club’s in-house TV channel.
Australia legend Tim Cahill is also standing in pacman’s corner, but feels Mayweather will win it.
“I’m a massive fan of the Pac but I think Mayweather will take this one out,” the 35-year-old attacking midfielder told Fifa.
Petr Cech, Chelsea’s goalkeeper is someone else who is rooting for Mayweather.
“I think Mayweather will win on decision,” the Czech Republic international told Fifa. “There will be no KO.”
That’s a view shared by Inter forward Lukas Podolski, who added: “I think it goes 12 rounds.”
Micah Richards is absolutely certain Mayweather will extend his streak.
“I’m going for Mayweather simply because he’s never been beat and I don’t believe he’d have taken the fight if he didn’t think he could win!” the Fiorentina defender told Fifa.
Someone who is desperately hoping Pacquiao wins is Domenico Criscito
“I have two Filipino girls who work with me, so I’m rooting for Pacquiao!” the Zenit defender added.
And Kolarov wants them to hug it out.
“I don’t like boxing,” he confessed to Manchester City’s TV channel. “I am for the love. We need love, not violence!”
I, for one I’m rooting for the underdog.
